HOUSE OF NUMBERS
Students
were introduced to the concept of ‘Place Value’ through an activity – ‘House of
Numbers’ on 11th August. This enabled them to understand how the
position of the digit in a number denotes if it is at units, tens, hundreds or
thousands ‘place’. Students had a wonderful time using their imagination skills
and creativity to make their house of numbers based on place value. Using the
idea of ‘units’ (one digit) as a single person, to becoming ‘tens’ (two digits)
when getting married and then ‘hundreds’ (three digits) when having a child was
quite marvellous. They also created a hotel with rooms assigned in place value
order and other creative picture stories of friends, sisters, friends meeting
at ski-field etc. Not only students but as teachers we had a lovely time
observing students having fun while learning…good stuff.
